About this course

Suitable for students who have been learning English for at least a year or have completed an elementary English as a Foreign Language course, who wish to extend their grammar and vocabulary and improve their ability to communicate in everyday situations.

Course description

Description

Suitable for students who have been learning English for at least a year or have completed an elementary English as a Foreign Language course, who wish to extend their grammar and vocabulary and improve their ability to communicate in everyday situations.

What can students expect?

A lively balance of new work and consolidation of previous learning with a focus on acquiring the ability to communicate effectively in most everyday situations.

Late starters allowed?

Yes, although they will need to make some personal effort to catch up on missed work. Extra support will be given to help late starters.

External qualification?

No, not directly. Support may be possible if individual students wish to take the Cambridge Key English Test, but this will not form part of regular lessons.

Previous experience required?

Students will be expected to have been learning English for a least a year and/or to have completed an elementary English course either in the UK or in their home country.

What is the progression route?

Intermediate (PET) course (Entry 3)

Are there any extra costs?

Students will be expected to have their own bilingual dictionary. Optional purchase of suitable self study grammar books and English dictionaries will be discussed in class.

Are there any set books?

A course book is supplied as part of the course.

Work set between sessions?

Homework is an important part of the course and will be set after each lesson.

What should students bring?

Notebook, pen/pencil and bilingual dictionary.

Teaching method/style?

Practical, communicative activities, with the emphasis on developing all language skills; including questions and answers, pair and small group practice, whole class work, formal and informal tests, role-play, games and quizzes.
