Description

A follow-on course for those with very little experience. Beginners and experienced learners also welcome.

What can students expect?

Basic etching
Making simple mono-types
Black and white lino cuts
You will learn how to: Draw and select relevant images and material for printmaking, prepare plates, make soft and hard grounds using different metals, transfer drawings to the plate/lino and drawing image,
Bite plates and learn the safe use of acids and cutting the lino,
Make aquatint and various other textures that create tone,
All aspects of printing/etching and lino, black and white multi plates.
Have an understanding of the history and relevance of printmaking
You will be encouraged to develop your own styles and ideas in a creative way.

Late starters allowed?

yes, with the agreement of the tutor. Anyone joining after the first session will be given extra support. You can join this course at any time.

Literacy, Language and Numeracy skills required

You will need to be able to understand both written and verbal information and instructions in English. The tutor will explain any technical terms used. You will also need basic numeracy to count, measure and adapt measurements.

This is a non-accredited course. You will be assessed informally by your tutor during classroom activities. There will be regular opportunities to review your progress.

Previous experience required?

This course is ideal if you have attended a short beginners course at this college or elsewhere, but is also suitable for those new to the medium who have some experience of drawing or visual arts.

What is the progression route?

Continue on other print courses in the College.

Are there any extra costs?

The course fee does not include the cost of materials used - approximately 25 to 40 over the length of the course, dependent on individual project chosen. Please bring any etching tools you may have and wear old clothes or bring an overall. The tutor will discuss the course requirements at the first session. Most materials can be purchased from the tutor.
