Description

An ideal course if you are looking to gain skills and knowledge to help you find work in an administrative or office based role. You will learn the basics of word processing, using spreadsheets and creating presentations. Suitable for beginners to computing as well as those who need to upskill. Upon successful completion of the assignments in class, you will gain the qualification. You will need to attend one of the Centres to enrol as you need to provide residency evidence (passport/birth certificate/home office papers). You will need to attend all sessions, and arrive punctually, as this course is very intensive.

Spreadsheets using Excel:

Perform simple calculations
Create graphs and charts

Presentations using PowerPoint:

Late starters allowed?

No as this is an intensive short course

Literacy, Language and Numeracy skills required

You will need to be able to understand written and verbal instructions in English and be able to communicate clearly with the tutor and other members of the class. There will be some minimal written work. You will need to understand the basics of mathematical concepts such as addition, subtraction, division and multiplication, percentages and measurements.

External qualification?

Yes you will gain a Level 1 IT Users Award upon successful completion of the assignments and tasks set in class. (awarding body: OCNLR Awards)

No, this course is suitable for beginners to computing

What is the progression route?

You could progress to ECDL Extra which is a level 2 qualification; you will need to attend an interview for this course, tutor or office staff can advise.

No, tutor will provide notes

Work set between sessions?

Yes you will need to practise what you have learnt in class between sessions. If you dont have a computer at home, you can use the PCs at the Kentwood Centre. There are no Open Access computers at the Poverest Centre.

Equipment Required

Notepad and pen. Folder to take handouts home.

Teaching method/style?

You will work at a computer in a dedicated IT suite and the tutor will lead you through the tasks as necessary. There will also be some individual and pair work. Lots of time to practise in a relaxed informal atmosphere.
