Gain a Level 2 IT qualification with ECDL Extra. As well as learning word processing, spreadsheets and presentations, you will complete a unit called Improving Productivity using IT which enables you to demonstrate skills that are demanded in today's office environment. Not suitable for complete beginners and beneficial to have completed a level 1 course before starting this course. You will be required to take 4 exams. You must have a PC at home in order to study between lessons. You must attend a precourse interview before enrolling on this course, please call 0208 859 7976 to arrange this.

What can students expect?

You will learn word processing from a beginner level through to more advanced topics such as tables, using pictures and mail merge. In the spreadsheet section you will be able to create worksheets with formatting and formulas. You will be able to manage your worksheets and use charts and graphs as well as setting up worksheets for printing. The presentation module will teach you to use Microsoft PowerPoint; you will be able to develop a presentation with varying slide layouts which will include text, images, charts and graphs. You will learn about different design templates and creating your own colour schemes and backgrounds. Formatting text, bullets and objects will give your slide show a professional feel. Finally you will learn how to prepare, check and deliver your presentation. The final module of ECDL Extra is Called Improve Productivity using IT. This is where you will demonstrate the ability to plan, evaluate and improve procedures that involve the use of IT in your daily work activities. The tests for all 4 modules are exam based and taken online so results are instant.

Literacy, Language and Numeracy skills required

You will need to be able to communicate in fluent English with your tutor and other students. You will be learning technical jargon. You will need to be able to follow written and verbal instructions. A grasp of simple mathematical measurements and operations will be beneficial.

Entry Requirements

Ideally you should have completed a Level 1 IT course or have previous experience of using Word Processing.

External qualification?

Yes, BCS Level 2 Certificate in IT User Skills (ECDL Extra).

Previous experience required?

Yes, basic word processing skills and a level qualifiction 1 is beneficial but not essential. Not suitable for beginners.

What is the progression route?

ECDL Advanced level 3 at other instituions.

Are there any extra costs?

No, fee includes registration, resources and test fees.

Are there any set books?

Resources will be provided by tutor and there will be access to online courseware

Work set between sessions?

Weekly homework and practice is required, otherwise you are unlikely to pass the exams. Regular attendance is essential as the course is very intensive and learning opportunities will be missed if you are absent.
