Description

Learn how to get the most from your flash gun on your SLR camera. Also useful if you are thinking of buying a flash gun. This is a practical course where you will discuss different types of flash light including the pop up flash on SLR cameras, flash guns, speedlights and studio lights. You will learn how to use your flash gun in TTL and Manual Mode. You will learn how the different camera settings affect flash light and the best settings to use.

What can students expect?

How to use flash to get results you're happy with. You will cover the following: TTL and manual flash settings. How your camera settings affect flash including shutter speed, aperture, ISO and sync speed. Fill flash and flash exposure compensation. Combining flash and daylight. Bouncing flash off ceilings and walls - how and why. Working with off camera flash. How and where to position lights in relation to your subject. Studio lighting set ups for portraits including key, fill and hair light. Learning about light modifiers such as reflectors, diffusers and umbrellas.

Literacy, Language and Numeracy skills required

You will need to be able to follow verbal and written instructions in English and to make notes from learning undertaken. You will also need to be able to follow technical explanations and instructions for practical work. The tutor will explain any specialist terms used.

Useful to have attended the SLR beginners' course, or have some experience using your SLR. You must bring your SLR camera. Please also bring your flash gun if you have one.

There will be informal assessment and feedback by the tutor throughout the day.

This is a practical course with lots of hands on practise. Tutor demonstration, one to one and group tutorial, questions and answers, discussion and observation.
