This accredited course is a stepping stone if you are considering further counselling training. You will learn the nature of helping work and how to establish boundaries. You will be able to apply initial counselling skills to communicate empathetic understanding and identify people's needs. The course will develop your own self-awareness and enhance your emotional and social skills, and help you to understand yourself and your relationships more clearly. What can students expect?
To learn initial counselling skills to help others in a voluntary or employed situation. This course will help you decide whether you wish to pursue further counsellor training. It wont teach you to be a counsellor but it will give you some useful skills.
Late starters allowed?
You may join the course up to week 2 with the tutor's agreement.
Literacy, Language and Numeracy skills required
You will need to be able to understand both verbal and written instructions and information in English and be able to write fluently. The tutor will explain any specialist terms used.

You can progress to CPCAB Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills.
Are there any extra costs?
The course fee includes the registration fee.
Are there any set books?
No, but tutor will advise on a suitable book list.
Work set between sessions?
Yes, this is a qualification course. In order to achieve the qualification, you will be expected to complete regular work between sessions, build a course portfolio and have an 80% course attendence record.
