Description

This accredited course is a stepping stone if you are considering further counselling training. You will learn the nature of helping work and how to establish boundaries. You will be able to apply initial counselling skills to communicate empathetic understanding and identify people's needs. The course will develop your own self-awareness and enhance your emotional and social skills, and help you to understand yourself and your relationships more clearly. You will learn to use listening and responding skills in a positive way. Pre-course interview and assessment required, please call 020 8659 7976 to arrange this.

What can students expect?

To learn initial counselling skills to help others in a voluntary or employed situation. This course will help you decide whether you wish to pursue further counsellor training. It wont teach you to be a counsellor but it will give you some useful skills.

Late starters allowed?

You may join the course up to week 2 with the tutor's agreement.

Literacy, Language and Numeracy skills required

You will need to be able to understand both verbal and written instructions and information in English and be able to write fluently. The tutor will explain any specialist terms used.

By the completion of a portfolio of evidence.

None required.

What is the progression route?

You can progress to CPCAB Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills.

The course fee includes the registration fee.

Are there any set books?

No, but tutor will advise on a suitable book list.

Work set between sessions?

Yes, this is a qualification course. In order to achieve the qualification, you will be expected to complete regular work between sessions, build a course portfolio and have an 80% course attendence record.

A mixture of discussion, role play, triad, 1-1 tuition and questions and answers.
