Description

Working from the model, develop accurate observational skills and learn how to compose and understand the use of colour and tone to depict expression and character, form and space.

What can students expect?

Explore a variety of painting and drawing media and different tehniques to improve portrait painting skills. Work with a wide range of subjects. Life drawing/painting will be studied for 4 weeks per year, otherwise clothed model. Objectives will be set by mutual agreement between tutor and students and there will be opportunities for you to develop specific areas according to ability.

Late starters allowed?

Yes, subject to tutor's agreement.

Literacy, Language and Numeracy skills required

You will need to be able to understand both written and verbal instructions and information in English and take measurements in both metric and imperial. The tutor will explain any specialist terms used.

Assessment Method

This is a non-accredited course. You will be assessed informally by your tutor during classroom activities. There will be regular opportunities to review your progress.

This is an all levels course.

What is the progression route?

To other courses within BAEC and at other colleges.

Are there any extra costs?

You will need to provide your own paints, paper and brushes. Tutor will advise at first session. Please bring any art materials you may have to the first session. The course fee does not include the cost of the materials used.

Are there any set books?

No,but reference books are available for students to view in class.

Work set between sessions?

In order to fully benefit from this course, it is advisable to practise the skills learnt between sessions.

Equipment Required

Please bring any paints, brushes and paper you may have to the first session. Tutor will advise at first session regarding course requirements. Please wear old clothes or bring an overall.

Teaching method/style?

A mixture of demonstration, group and one-to-one tutorials and questions and answers.
