Gain a Level 1 IT qualification with this ECDL Essentials course; you will need to pass tests in 3 modules. You will cover Security for IT Users, Online Basics, Computer Basics. This course is suitable for complete beginners to computing. You can progress to Level 2 ECDL Extra.

What can students expect?

The three modules of the ECDL Essentials course: Security for IT Users covers topics such as information security, viruses, confidentiality, security of networks as well as portable devices and guidelines and procedures. Computer Basics will teach you the following: setting up and configuring the operating system, file and folder management, system maintenance, print management, Health and Safety with regard to IT use, security and legal requirements. The final module is Online Basics - Internet and Email - where you will learn about surfing and searching online with security in mind, how to best navigate the web including saving and bookmarking pages and printing from the Internet. The email section of this unit covers the basics of sending, receiving and forwarding messages, understanding terminology relating to online communication and managing address books in email programmes.

External qualification?

Yes. Level 1 ITQ Award in IT User Skills (ECDL Essentials).

Previous experience required?

No, complete beginners are allowed. But you need access to a PC in between lessons to practise.

What is the progression route?

Part 2 - ECDL Extra

Are there any extra costs?

No, fee includes registration, tests and resources. Resits for failed exams will be charged at 10 per exam.

Work set between sessions?

Studying between sessions will be necessary to pass the exams. Regular attendance is essential as the course is very intensive and learning opportunities will be missed if you are absent.
