What the course is about

<p>During this course you will receive both group and individual support from an experienced teacher who will guide you to use a computer safely and successfully. You will be able to increase your wellbeing by learning about the fascinating world of technology and keeping in touch with friends old and new. The course will develop your knowledge and skills in:</p>

<ul>
<li>Recognising what type of computer might suit you</li>
<li>Using a keyboard, mouse and other key parts of a computer</li>
<li>Setting up and using email</li>
<li>Using the internet to find things out and access services</li>
<li>Internet safety</li>
<li>Online shopping</li>
<li>Using a camera with a computer</li>
<li>Accessing and using social media sites, such as Facebook</li>
</ul>

<p>All our courses are made up of elements of speaking & listening, reading and writing, and you will work using these elements throughout the course. Some of the skills you gain on this course could help increase your opportunities for employment or working within the community. Learning takes place in a friendly classroom setting, which is a great place for social interaction and helping you meet new people. Practice at home and completion of homework is advisable to enhance your learning experience if that is possible but donít let this put you off. If you donít have a computer you may be able to book time in your local library. This course is subsidised by Government funding so you should aim to attend the whole course.</p>

<p>There are no Pre-course admission sessions or interviews in order to enrol on this course.</p>

<p>Please ensure you have read and understood our STEPS guidance in order to accurately enrol upon the correct level course for you.</p>

Assessment of progress, tests, exams

<p>Your tutor will work with you to develop a Personal Development Plan (PDP) which will help you review your progress towards achieving your goals during the course.†</p>

<p>There is no qualification or examination attached to this course.</p>

Who the course is for / Previous experience, knowledge or qualifications

<p>This is a Beginners course, for those who have no experience in the subject or very basic knowledge of the subject. This course could be helpful for people who are experiencing low mood, anxiety and/or stress.</p>

Materials and costs

<p>You will need a notebook and pen.</p>

<p>It would be useful for you to have access to a computer so you can practise what you learn in each session. Alternatively, you can book computer time for free in any of the local libraries.</p>

<strong>Home study:</strong> you may be required to do some study at home between sessions to assist with your learning and progress.<br />
<strong>Qualification Levels:</strong> there is further information about qualification levels on our website. Some courses have learners of different levels being taught in the same class with differentiated learning materials and activities appropriate to the qualification level.<br />
<strong>Proof of identity:</strong> please bring photographic ID and your National Insurance number with you to your first session. You will also need to provide it for any external examinations you take.<br />
<strong>Off-site activities:</strong> with some courses, there may be the opportunity for off-site enrichment activities at additional cost, for example: gallery, museum or exhibition visits. Where this is an integral part of the course, your tutor will discuss the arrangements with you during your induction.<br />
<strong>Parking at centres:</strong> parking at centres may be limited; please be prepared to use on street parking or pay and display car parks.
