Course description

This is a theoretical and practical course for those who need to be able to recognise and respond to an emergency first-aid situation involving children.
Acquire basic first aid skills for the management of a sick or injured child (up to about 8 years old), including care of the unconscious child, resuscitation, choking, control of bleeding, and minor head injuries.
The course is delivered in a relaxed, friendly and informative way.

Course outcomes

By the end of the course you will be able to:
Demonstrate how to resuscitate a baby/child
Demonstrate how to place a baby/child into the recovery position
Explain how to manage a child with a bump to the head
Demonstrate what to do in the case of choking

What do I need to bring?

Mask and gloves for COVID-19 PPE
Pen and paper.
Suitable clothing for practical skills – practising recovery position

How will I learn?

Learning will take place in a relaxed enjoyable session.
Various teaching methods will be used supported by practical sessions.

How will my progress be monitored and assessed?

The session will have identified aims for you to achieve. Your progress will be monitored by question and answer and tutor observation. There will be a series of questions/practical activities to gain the certificate.

Are there any additional costs?

There are no additional costs.

What qualification will I get?

This course includes a 6-hour Paediatric First Aid certificate for those who attend both sessions and achieve the pass mark which is valid for 3 years

What will I be able to do after this course?

If required by OFSTED a 12 hour Paediatric First Aid course can be taken or Emergency First Aid at work (adult first aid)
