Course description

The overall aims of the course are to support you in your journey to working in a primary school.
This course will help you gain an understanding of the wider impact you will have on the school community where you work and the impact you will have on the teachers, families or children you are working with. As well as helping you to develop a professional attitude to working in a primary school and to understand the realities of working as a teaching assistant.
There will be online tasks set which aim to prepare you for applying for a job in primary schools, working within the National Curriculum and developing your key skills.

Course outcomes

By the end of this course you will be able to:

Identify the different classroom support roles
Describe the responsibilities of a teaching assistant
Know how to meet the needs of the staff and children you are working with
Explain how to support children with SEND
Outline the realities of working in a primary school

To make the most of this course you will need to ensure your camera and microphone are on and you are set up in a quiet place where you are unlikely to be interrupted. We also recommend that you check your device has plenty of battery power or is plugged in.

Please try to arrive 5 – 10 minutes before the start of the class to ensure you are logged on and any technical issues can be resolved. Please ensure that your name is showing when joining as the tutor will need to identify you against the register for security reasons. When you join, you will be held in a waiting room until the tutor is ready to start the session.
