Course description

It is important to know what is involved in setting up your own business as over 50% of start-ups fail within the first five years due to poor planning.
This course will give you the guidelines in understanding if your business idea is a feasible reality and what is involved; from registering as a sole trader, identifying the best type of trading entity/ownership, working within correct trading requirements and regulations to scoping a business plan, adopting a pricing strategy, establishing a trading domain name, preparing a cash-flow schedule and when and how to comply with HMRC tax reporting needs.
You will also cover Health & Safety, Equality & Safeguarding policy in the workplace and business insurance requirements.
There is a lot more to it than you might think.
So, gain the know-how to ensure an early survival!

Course outcomes

By the end of the course you will be able to:
Select and register the right trading entity, name and tax status for a new business
Assemble key areas of information to be included in a basic business plan
Prepare an initial cash flow schedule
Select a suitable pricing strategy for your new business in addition to choosing suitable terms of payment conditions
Know how to set up a brand/trading and domain name
How and when to comply with HMRC tax reporting requirements
Review reference sources giving advice on setting up Health & Safety and Equality & Safeguarding policies

How will I learn?

You will experience tutor demonstration supported with PowerPoint slides and carry out practical activities.

How will my progress be monitored and assessed?

The session will have identified aims for you to achieve and your tutor will discuss the work you will be doing at the beginning of the session. Progress is monitored by practical work and by tutor observation.

There are no additional costs for this course but there are likely to be business costs when setting up your own business
