Course description

This 5-day course will provide you with an opportunity to explore and develop life skills such as managing change, dealing with stress, setting personal goals, improving communication skills, building self confidence, resilience and motivation. This is a non-accredited course that can prepare and develop you for further learning towards a qualification or for life in general.

This course will primarily be held in the classroom but the option to attend remotely via Zoom can be arranged upon request.

Course outcomes

By the end of the course you will be able to:

Explain why it is important to develop life skills
Explain at least four ways of managing change and dealing with stress
Describe at least three personal goals
Demonstrate at least two techniques of good communication
Explain how to improve your self confidence
Explain the importance of motivation and resilience to achieve goals

Is this course suitable for me?

No prior knowledge, understanding, skills or qualifications are required for you to register for this course. This a course for personal development for those looking to return to work or for general learning purposes.

What do I need to bring?

All course material will be provided by the Tutor but a pen and a notebook would be useful.

How will I learn?

Learning will take place in a classroom situation or online via Zoom. You will receive a workbook at the start of the course and then work individually or as part of a group depending on requirements of the task. Visual aids, discussion, debates and practical tasks will be used throughout the programme. At the end of the week (on Friday afternoon) there will be a Question and Answer session where you will be able to speak to the tutor individually if required.

How will my progress be monitored and assessed?

You will be assessed by the Tutor using various methods. This could take on the form of discussion, quizzes and/or games.

Are there any additional costs?

There are no additional costs.

What qualification will I get?

This is a non-accredited course and therefore no qualification will be obtained.

What will I be able to do after this course?

You will be able to progress onto any qualification course as per your individual needs and requirements. You may also attend further courses on personal development. These can be discussed with an adviser should you need guidance on your next step.

If you are joining on a laptop then Zoom can be accessed via a web browser (Microsoft, Google Chrome etc) or if you are using a mobile device then you will need to download the app from the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store – all options are free and you don’t need to have a Zoom account, so it is your personal preference.

To make the most of this course you will need to ensure your camera and microphone are on and you are set up in a quiet place where you are unlikely to be interrupted. We also recommend that you check your device has plenty of battery power or is plugged in.

Please try to arrive 5 – 10 minutes before the start of the class to ensure you are logged on and any technical issues can be resolved. Please ensure that your name is showing when joining as the tutor will need to identify you against the register for security reasons. When you join, you will be held in a waiting room until the tutor is ready to start the session.
