Description

This course is for those who have painted with watercolours before and want new inspiration to make more progress.
Drawing experience desirable.
This course will be delivered at Stoke Lodge but will move online if necessary using ZOOM.

What can students expect?

Guided by an experienced tutor, students will be encouraged to experiment with complex techniques e.g. masking, lifting, spattering, scratching and use resists, ink, line and wash.

Late starters allowed?

Yes if they have some experience of watercolours.

Previous experience required?

Some basic knowledge of watercolours is needed and some drawing practice is helpful.

What is the progression route?

Students may progress towards Watercolours Improvers, sketchbook skills outdoors, or other acrylics and watercolours courses.

Are there any extra costs?

Yes, as students provide their own materials (see below).

Work set between sessions?

Yes, practice on a voluntary basis

What should students bring?

• Watercolour Paper, 300GSM cold press size A4-A3 e.g. Bockingford,
• Watercolour pans or tubes artists quality: Cadmium yellow light, Crimson, Cobalt Blue or French Ultramarine, Cerulean, Sap green, Burnt Umber, plus any watercolours you have.
• A 2B pencil,
• Soft tissues
• 2 watercolour brushes size 8 and 10 or larger
• Mixing palette
• Small bottle - masking Fluid
• An apron or old shirt to protect your clothes
• Two water containers (jam jar or large yogurt pot)
• Masking-tape or drawing clips or bull-dog clips
Stable internet connection, a tablet or PC and ability to use ZOOM if the course moves online.

Teaching method/style?

The tutor will demonstrate and guide the students towards practical exercises designed to extend students’ knowledge of the medium.
