Late starters allowed?

Yes, but this is a short course, so it is best to join by week 2.

Previous experience required?

Not necessarily – but ‘Improvers’ suggests students have some previous knowledge. This might be an interest from some time ago – a school subject briefly studied; dabbling a bit now and then; belonging to an untutored group that paints for fun; following watercolour painting on a media website or blog, or taking one of the many art based magazines. If you are considering this course it is probably the one you need.

What is the progression route?

Future watercolour courses or other art courses

Are there any extra costs?

Materials depending on students’ personal choice of paint, surface, and outcome. (i.e. expensive pigments, quality of paper, framing or portfolio for storage etc).

Are there any set books?

No

Work set between sessions?

No

What should students bring?

All painting equipment and materials as shown below. Might be best to talk to tutor about this on session one before investment is made.
• Carrying case or bag
• Paintbrushes
• Watercolour paints
• Masking fluid
• Paper
• Masking tape
• An apron or old shirt to protect your clothes
• Paper clips or bulldog clips
Stable internet connection, a tablet or PC and ability to use ZOOM/WhatsApp if the course moves online.

Teaching method/style?

Demonstration, individual and group tuition and practical work. The tutor suggests projects and brings supporting materials, but students are encouraged to contribute their own ideas and to supply visual research of their own, (i.e. if the subject is ‘The Drama of the Sea’; individuals might like to use photo material from their own holiday in Cornwall rather than that supplied by the tutor).
