<p><span style="font-size:14px">This short course outlines the secretive and often bizarre world of ancient Sparta including their extraordinary marriage and education systems which are as strange to us today as they were to the rest of the ancient world</span>.</p>

What can students expect?

<p><span style="font-size:14px">The Spartans had a reputation that has lasted through the years – even today people use the term ‘Spartan’ as a descriptive. But what were they really like? This short course will outline how Spartan society was organised, including their unique family and education systems and their reputation for military brilliance. The course will demonstrate why Spartans became feared for their military skill at the same time as being admired for their ‘laconic’ sense humour.</span></p>

What is the progression route?

<p><span style="font-size:14px"><span style="font-family:Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif">I run a range of courses on the classical world, including Women in the classical world and Greek theatre. I will re-run my ‘Odyssey’ course soon, too</span></span></p>

Teaching method/style?

<p><span style="font-size:14px"><span style="background-color:white"><span style="font-family:&#34;Arial&#34;,sans-serif"><span style="color:black">I describe my style as ‘informal lecture’. I aim to use pictures wherever possible, and I welcome interruptions, questions and digressions.</span></span></span></span></p>

Refunds and cancellations

<p><span style="font-size:14px">If we have to cancel your course your fees will be refunded in full. We are unable to reimburse the cost of materials you may have bought for the course.</span></p>

<p><span style="font-size:14px">If you cancel your course booking a week (7 days) or more before the start date we will refund your fees minus an admin charge of 20%.</span></p>

<p><span style="font-size:14px">If you cancel with less than a week (7 days) before the start date or after the course has started, we will not be able to refund your fees.</span></p>

<p><span style="font-size:14px">Transfers will incur a fee of 10% and must be requested 7 days or more before the start of a course unless you are transferring to another course because your original course was cancelled.</span></p>

<p><span style="font-size:14px">We are not able to offer refunds due to sickness or ill health.</span></p>

<p><span style="font-size:14px">If you are due a refund you must contact the office within 3 months of the course to arrange payment as we do not keep card details.</span></p>

<p><span style="font-size:14px">When attending an online course, it is a learner’s responsibility to ensure they have adequate internet access before the start of a course. Refunds will not be given for technical failure of a learner’s home computer or their internet access.</span></p>
