Description

Led by an experienced tutor, beginners will be guided through traditional methods of using oil paints, while those with some experience will be encouraged to develop existing skills. Learners will work on individual projects and will develop confidence and ability throughout the term. ‘On the job’ learning. If you are new to oils you will start with a very simple still life. Improvers will be encouraged to set their own projects and extend their technical repertoire.

Newcomers will be taught to use oil paint. Improvers will be encouraged to extend their scope.

Equipment Required

Paint (DONT BUY VERY CHEAP) Daler or Windor and Newton student quality oilsa
selection including reds blues yellows raw or burnt umber and white.
Brushes .. Bristle not nylon .. a selection of round and flat in various sizes incl some large
size.
Palette. Must be flat . Either tear- off pad or wooden traditional of a large bathroom tile.
(smooth)
Palette knife .. metal .. triangular blade
Canvas - stretched, board of pad . (Dont buy super cheap)
Turps
Cotton rags
Kitchen roll
Baby wipes
Glass jar with screw top
Liquin ( ‘fine detail’ if possible)

Language of Instruction

Beginners will be shown the step by step process and then make their own painting.
Improvers will be encouraged to talk about the direction of their work and work towards their
goals
