Itís easy to get into a muddied muddled mess with oil painting! But it neednít be so. This short course is designed to demystify the art of oil painting, examining the properties of oil paint, how to mix colours, and how to plan and execute an expressive oil painting.

You may be asked to bring in drawings or a photograph to work from in between some of the sessions.

What should students bring?

An apron and a sketchbook if they would like to make notes.

Teaching method/style?

This course is for absolute beginners and those with a little experience, so I will be guiding
you through the basics of oil painting in a structured way, tackling subjects such as the
characteristics of oil paint, how to get the most from your brushes, how to organise your
colours on your palette, how to mix colours, and how to make interesting brush marks and
design an interesting composition. I hope students will leave the course feeling confident to
explore the world of oil painting further.
