Description

This course will enable you to design and make your own piece stained glass art. Suitable for both beginners and those with some experience.
Fee includes classroom sundries; learners can purchase coloured glass, lead and solder from the tutor or from a local supplier.

What can students expect?

Beginners will be guided through all the stages involved in making a small leaded panel from design, cutline, cutting and shaping glass to size; leading, soldering, cementing and finishing.

Improvers can plan and make a window with one to one tuition support. They can also learn other techniques such as kiln fired glass painting/stain/enamel, fusing & slumping, copper foil & stained-glass mosaic. They will also learn how to make test samples and apply new techniques into their creative glass work.

This is a mixed level course, beginners welcome.

Are there any extra costs?

Yes you will need to purchase materials coloured glass, lead and for larger panels more solder and cement.
You can purchase coloured glass from your tutor or visit your local glass suppliers.
Materials costs may vary depending on the scale of your project, but for an A3 sized panel you can expect to pay £40- £45 approx.

Are there any set books?

No

Work set between sessions?

You can continue your studies between classes researching on the internet or working on developing your sketches and designs.
You can also order your materials from a local suppliers if you want to buy your glass directly. There is no homework set specifically.

What should students bring?

For the 1st session, please bring:
• A note book
• Sturdy shoes( no open toe sandals)
• Colour art materials if you have any for design- bring what you have no need to purchase any especially
• Two or three different ideas- these could be pictures, original doodles or sketches, postcards, pictures from magazines, photos, art books anything to act as a starting point for your design

Teaching method/style?

Formal teaching and demonstrations. One to one tutor support and learning checks and group discussions, books, photos and samples for study.

Equipment Required

We have all the equipment you need to get started. The tutor can advise you if you choose to purchase any of your own equipment.
There is a nominal charge included in your fee for workshop sundries – e.g. paper, masking tape, tracing paper, glass cleaner, kiln shelf paper, 2 strips of solder, fluxes, white spirit, patinas, glass paints. etc
