This course continues and builds on the learning acquired in the previous term but new learners are welcome during the year if you have previous experience. Learn more about bidding and complex auctions and gain more card play skills.
What can students expect?
This course is ideal for people who have completed the Bridge for Beginners first year course or who have not played for a while and want a (beginner level) refresher course. It is suitable for new players who want to reinforce their knowledge. The course concentrates on revision of previous learning with introduction of a few new techniques and plenty of practice.
The system used is foundation level Standard English ACOL.
The course will include these topics:
1. Opening bids, responses and rebids in an uncontested auction
2. Competitive auctions overcalls and doubles
3. Card Play techniques as Declarer
4. Card Play as Defender
5. Slam bidding
6. Transfer bids (response to 1NT)
7. Protective bids
8. 4th suit forcing
9. Losing Trick Count
10. Popular conventions (such as Stayman, Landy, Blackwood)
There will be some Duplicate bridge practice for those who want to progress to playing in a bridge club. Each lesson includes practice card play. You will partner another class member.
Improvers courses are scheduled for September, January and April

Previous experience required?
Yes. Completion of year one or previous bridge playing experience at novice level.
What is the progression route?
Progress to next term to continue learning. Information will be given about local practice / beginner play opportunities.
