<p><span style="font-size:11pt"><span style="font-family:Calibri,sans-serif"><span style="font-size:12.0pt"><span style="font-family:&#34;Aptos&#34;,sans-serif">By the end of the course, learners will have the ability and confidence to complete tasks in a range of formal and informal situations such as, applying for jobs, making requests and giving information to others, understanding written and verbal instructions etc.</span></span></span></span></p>

<p><span style="font-size:11pt"><span style="font-family:Calibri,sans-serif"><span style="font-size:12.0pt"><span style="font-family:&#34;Aptos&#34;,sans-serif">Learners will be working towards a nationally recognised qualification in Functional Skills English Level 1. </span></span></span></span></p>

<p><span style="font-size:11pt"><span style="font-family:Calibri,sans-serif"><span style="font-size:12.0pt"><span style="font-family:&#34;Aptos&#34;,sans-serif">To be entered into examinations, the following criteria must be met: </span></span></span></span></p>

<p><span style="font-size:11pt"><span style="font-family:Calibri,sans-serif"><span style="font-size:12.0pt"><span style="font-family:&#34;Aptos&#34;,sans-serif">Consistently and independently producing work at Level 1 for reading, writing and speaking & listening, </span></span></span></span></p>

<p><span style="font-size:11pt"><span style="font-family:Calibri,sans-serif"><span style="font-size:12.0pt"><span style="font-family:&#34;Aptos&#34;,sans-serif">An internal mock examination with a pass mark at 75% or above in all components.</span></span></span></span></p>

What you will learn

<p><span style="font-size:11pt"><span style="font-family:Calibri,sans-serif"><span style="font-size:12.0pt"><span style="font-family:&#34;Aptos&#34;,sans-serif">Listen, understand and make relevant contributions in a range of situations with others <em>e.g. discussions, debates, speeches. </em></span></span></span></span><span style="font-size:11pt"><span style="font-family:Calibri,sans-serif"><span style="font-size:12.0pt"><span style="font-family:&#34;Aptos&#34;,sans-serif">Communicate information, own views and opinions verbally and in writing. </span></span></span></span><span style="font-size:11pt"><span style="font-family:Calibri,sans-serif"><span style="font-size:12.0pt"><span style="font-family:&#34;Aptos&#34;,sans-serif">Apply their understanding of language to adapt delivery and content to suit audience and purpose, <em>e.g. changing level of formality, tone and attitude to suit audience in written tasks and spoken language. </em></span></span></span></span><span style="font-size:11pt"><span style="font-family:Calibri,sans-serif"><span style="font-size:12.0pt"><span style="font-family:&#34;Aptos&#34;,sans-serif">Read and understand different types of text of multiple sources and text types <em>e.g. newspaper and magazine articles, books</em>; and be able to distinguish between facts and opinion. </span></span></span></span><span style="font-size:11pt"><span style="font-family:Calibri,sans-serif"><span style="font-size:12.0pt"><span style="font-family:&#34;Aptos&#34;,sans-serif">Write texts of varying complexity with accuracy, effectiveness, and correct spelling, punctuation and grammar, <em>e.g. when writing formal letters or reports, reviews, e-mails etc. </em></span></span></span></span><span style="font-size:11pt"><span style="font-family:Calibri,sans-serif"><span style="font-size:12.0pt"><span style="font-family:&#34;Aptos&#34;,sans-serif">Learners will be expected to confidently and consistently demonstrate these outcomes, and others, by the end of the course.</span></span></span></span></p>
