What the course is about

<p>This fantastic short course will explore the world of decorative arts for your home.</p>

<p>This course will help you understand what folk art is and give you the chance to create some of your own. </p>

<p>Topics that may be covered are;</p>

<ul>
<li>Characteristics of folk art objects </li>
<li>European folk art influences, colours and design </li>
<li>Folk art and the canals of England </li>
</ul>

<p>All our courses are made up of elements of speaking & listening, reading and writing, and you will work using these elements throughout the course.</p>

<p>Learning takes place in a friendly classroom setting, which is a great place for social interaction and helping you meet new people.</p>

<p>Practice at home and completion of homework is advisable to enhance your learning experience.</p>

<p>This course is subsidised by Government funding so you should aim to attend the whole course. </p>

<p>There are no Pre-course admission sessions or interviews in order to enrol on this course.</p>

Assessment of progress, tests, exams

<p>Your tutor will work with you to develop a Personal Development Plan (PDP) which will help you review your progress towards achieving your goals during the course.</p>

<p>There is no qualification or examination attached to this course.</p>

Who the course is for / Previous experience, knowledge or qualifications

<p>This is a Beginners course - you will be expected to have no experience in the subject or very basic knowledge of the subject.</p>

Materials and costs

<p>A sketch book or plain paper, pencil & eraser<br />
A plain wooden, papier mache or ceramic item, (for example a box, a plant pot, a wooden crate, wooden spoon, the possibilities are endless!) <br />
Set of acrylic paints (6-12 colours)<br />

<strong>Home study:</strong> you will&nbsp;be required to do significant&nbsp;study at home between sessions to assist with your learning and progress.<br />

<strong>Proof of identity:</strong> please bring photographic ID and your National Insurance number with you to your first session. You will also need to provide it for any external examinations you take.<br />
<strong>Off-site activities:</strong> with some courses, there may be the opportunity for off-site enrichment activities at additional cost, for example: gallery, museum or exhibition visits. Where this is an integral part of the course, your tutor will discuss the arrangements with you during your induction.<br />
<strong>Parking at centres:</strong> parking at centres may be limited; please be prepared to use on street parking or pay and display car parks.
