What the course is about

<p>The LAMDA Group Introductory Stage One Examination is designed to develop confidence and introduce Learners to basic communication skills in a group setting. Learners will work towards speaking one poem from memory, audibly and clearly, demonstrating an appreciation of meaning, and play a drama game with the Examiner. </p>

<p>Learners will be required to: </p>

<ul>
<li>learn the words of a poem and recite them aloud as a group </li>
<li>respond to a stimulus in a drama game </li>
<li>develop skills in voice and diction </li>
<li>respond to simple instructions in a drama game </li>
<li>interact as a group </li>
</ul>

<p>This course requires you to have a moderate level of fitness as the sessions involve physical activities. </p>

<p>You will need to have a good level of English skills in reading and writing as the course will involve working with scripts.</p>

<p>All our courses are made up of elements of speaking & listening, reading and writing, and you will work using these elements throughout the course. </p>

<p>Learning takes place in a friendly classroom setting, which is a great place for social interaction and helping you meet new people. </p>

<p>Practice at home and completion of homework is advisable to enhance your learning experience. </p>

<p>This course is subsidised by Government funding so you should aim to attend the whole course. </p>

<p>There are no pre-course information sessions or interviews in order to enrol on this course. </p>

Assessment of progress, tests, exams

<p>Your tutor will work with you to develop a Personal Development Plan (PDP) which will help you review your progress towards achieving your goals during the course. </p>

<p>If you choose to and with the support of your tutor you will take The LAMDA Group Introductory Stage One Examination at our local Lamda centre. </p>

Who the course is for / Previous experience, knowledge or qualifications

<p>This course is for learners who wish to develop their confidence and their speech and communication skills in a group setting. An interest in acting and exploring performance through voice and movement is essential! </p>

<p>This course requires you to have a moderate level of fitness as the sessions involve physical activities. </p>

<p>You will need to have a good level of English skills in reading and writing as the course will involve working with scripts.</p>

Materials and costs

<p>You will need a notebook, pen and A4 folder. </p>

<p>During the first session your tutor may discuss additional materials to bring if possible. </p>

<strong>Fully funded learners:</strong> if you have been offered a fully funded place on a course and no longer require it, you must advise us before the course starts so that your place can be offered to someone else. We reserve the right to withdraw future offers of fully funded places if you regularly do not start or complete funded courses.<br />
<strong>Home study:</strong> you will be required to do significant study at home between sessions to assist with your learning and progress.<br />
<strong>Proof of identity:</strong> please bring photographic ID and your National Insurance number with you to your first session. You will also need to provide it for any external examinations you take.<br />
<strong>Off-site activities:</strong> with some courses, there may be the opportunity for off-site enrichment activities at additional cost, for example: gallery, museum or exhibition visits. Where this is an integral part of the course, your tutor will discuss the arrangements with you during your induction.<br />
<strong>Parking at centres:</strong> parking at centres may be limited; please be prepared to use on street parking or pay and display car parks.
