What the course is about

This course offers you the chance to continue your learning journey so that you become more confident using a computer and other digital devices, increasing your inclusion in the community through the fascinating world of technology and keeping you in touch with friends old and new.

The course will continue to develop your skills in:</p><ul><li>Using email and managing your email account</li><li>Using the internet confidently and safely</li><li>Creating documents which include writing and pictures</li><li>Organising the files stored on your computer</li><li>Participating in social media accounts</li><li>Storing photos and videos</li></ul><p>All our courses are made up of elements of speaking & listening, reading and writing, and you will work using these elements throughout the course.

Learning takes place in a friendly classroom setting, which is a great place for social interaction and helping you meet new people.

Practice at home and completion of homework is advisable to enhance your learning experience.

This course is subsidised by Government funding so you should aim to attend the whole course.

Pre-course information session or interview

There are no pre-course admission sessions or interviews in order to enrol on this course.

Please ensure you have read and understood our STEPS guidance in order to accurately enrol upon the correct level course for you.

Assessment of progress, tests, exams

Your tutor will work with you to develop a Personal Development Plan (PDP) which will help you review your progress towards achieving your goals during the course.

There is no qualification or examination attached to this course.

Who the course is for / Previous experience, knowledge or qualifications

This is a Beginners Step 2 course, and you will be expected to have some basic knowledge and experience in the subject and can understand and complete simple tasks in the subject.

You must be over 60 and priority will be given to those living alone.

You will need to have a very basic knowledge of computers or have completed an Introduction to Computers or Step 1 Beginners (or equivalent) course. It would be useful for you to have access to a computer so you can practise what you learn in each session. Alternatively, you can book computer time for free in any of the local libraries.

Materials and costs

You will need a notebook, pen and A4 folder.

We reserve the right to withdraw future offers of fully funded places if you regularly do not start or complete funded courses.
<br><b>Home study:</b> you may be required to do some study at home between sessions to assist with your learning and progress.
<br><b>Qualification Levels:</b> there is further information about qualification levels on our website. Some courses will have learners of different levels being taught in the same class with differentiated learning materials and activities appropriate to the qualification level.
<br><b>Proof of identity:</b> please bring photographic ID and your National Insurance number with you to your first session. You will also need to provide it for any external examinations you take.
<br><b>Off-site activities:</b> with some courses, there may be the opportunity for off-site enrichment activities at additional cost, for example: gallery, museum or exhibition visits. Where this is an integral part of the course, your tutor will discuss the arrangements with you during your induction.
<br><b>Parking at Centres:</b> parking at centres may be limited, please be prepared to use on street parking or pay and display car parks.
