This course is part of a project to support ESOL learners in the Community. Please DO NOT apply for this course unless you have been sent a link or have already been interviewed by our Volunteer Training Team.
When and where
Fees and concessions
Free. There is no tuition fee charged for this course.
This course will give you the skills and understanding needed for volunteers supporting Community ESOL classes.
You will have a good standard of written and spoken English. Enrolment for this course is by application only. As part of the application process, you will complete an Initial Assessment of your skills in English.
What are the benefits of this course?
The course aims to enable you to:
• Understand roles and responsibilities in relation to supporting ESOL learners
• Develop and use appropriate resources and methods of supporting learners
• Gain an understanding of the various digital platforms available to support learning
• Share ideas and practice with other volunteers
• Gain a formal teaching qualification
How will I learn?
The course will run from October 2020 to April 2021. The course will be delivered online through digital learning platforms, delivered by our highly qualified teacher-trainers and you will need to complete approximately 10 guided learning hours.
How will my progress be monitored and assessed?
One to one and group sessions will be held during the course.
Our Community ESOL team will be available throughout for support.
Are there any additional costs?
There are no course costs.
Volunteer expenses will be reimbursed through the project.
What qualification will I get?
You will receive a certificate showing your participation in the project.
Volunteers will also have the opportunity to study the Level 3 Award in Education and Training. Bursaries will be available towards the cost of this course.
What will I be able to do after this course?
You may wish to progress to higher level teacher training through Higher Education. If you wish to specialise in teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages you may want to apply to study for CELTA with us.
